William L. Owens

90, handed away on Aug. 8, 2021, fittingly on Hall of Fame weekend. Monthly bill was the son of Russell and Florence (Youthful) Owens, born in North Canton, Ohio on Nov. 9, 1930. He was preceded in death by his brother, John R. Owens. Monthly bill is survived by his wife, Jean, his superior school sweetheart, they have been married for 69 years. Also surviving are his children, Paula (Larry) Merten, David (Jeanne) Owens, Scott (Marisa) Owens, and Mark (Kelly) Owens his grandchildren, Evan (Gina) Merten, Chase (Taylor) Merten, Allison (Mike) Ferguson, Jennifer Wilhelm, Matthew Owens, Clair Owens, Sydney Owens, Jake Owens, and Lily Owens, and four excellent-grandchildren.

Bill graduated from NoCaHi – class of 1948. He lettered in soccer, basketball, baseball, and monitor. He was co-captain of the to start with undefeated soccer staff in NoCaHi history. The basketball crew went to Point out in his senior calendar year. He went on to perform football at Colgate College on a complete experience scholarship. Invoice was workforce captain in his senior yr and was named to the Connected Push All-East team. His college big was Latin, and he was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. Subsequent his graduation in 1952, he joined the United States Maritime Corp in which he rose to the rank of Captain. There he was experienced in the to start with Marine Underneath Water Demolition Squad and was captain of the Lejeune Maritime Corp soccer team. Monthly bill was an avid community volunteer, owning served as chairman on the Board of the North Canton YMCA. He served as a football mentor and league Commissioner for North Canton Youth Soccer. He was very pleased to serve on the Hall of Fame committee for 20+ yrs, past serving as Normal Chairman. Monthly bill was in Industrial Profits for Countrywide Income Sign-up, the Hannon Electric powered Enterprise, and Canton Provide, and was the proprietor of Canton Protection from 1982-1990. He was a constitution member of the Stark County Security Council and obtained many local community provider awards throughout his life time. He was honored to be inducted into the North Canton Alumni Association Corridor of Difference and the Hoover Superior Faculty Athletic Hall of Fame.

It is with major hearts that we end our long goodbye with father. Lots of thanks to the caring staff at the Inn at Whitewood and to Crossroads Hospice. Contacting hours for Bill will be held at Karlo-Libby Funeral Household in Canton on Friday, Aug. 20, 2021 from 4-7 p.m. A memorial company will be held at Zion United Church of Christ in North Canton on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 11 a.m. with Reverend Gary Smith officiating and navy honors currently being done by the 555th Honor Detachment.
