James Slagle Obituary (2021) – Swanton, OH

James Edward Slagle, 78, of Swanton passed away peacefully, with his family members at his bedside, Thursday, July 15, 2021, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. He was born Oct. 14, 1942, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Maurice and Jeanette (Zimmerman) Slagle.

Jim was a 1960 graduate of Macomber Vocational Substantial College, specializing in automotive mechanics. He enlisted at age 17 in the United States Navy and served from July 22, 1960 – October 15, 1963, aboard the USS Chivo. Following honorable discharge, he entered into the Ohio Point out Highway Patrol Academy, graduating on Aug. 5, 1966. Whilst serving as an Ohio Point out Freeway Patrolman/Trooper, Device #457, Jim wore lots of hats.

He served as an instructor at the Ohio Point out Freeway Patrol Academy in Columbus, was instrumental in securing the initially union agreement, and served on the to start with Site visitors Drug Interdiction Staff obtaining honorable awards from the governor of Ohio. Some called him Batman. At just one stage, he was promoted to sergeant, but selected to go again to street patrol, interacting specifically with the community, for his passion was to provide and safeguard.

Later on, he taught regulation enforcement at Owens Neighborhood College or university and was a substitute trainer at Penta Job Centre. Still left to cherish Jim’s memory is his loving and devoted spouse of 31 decades, Rosie youngsters, Rob (Kirsten) Slagle, Rhonda (Jim) Flynn, Greg (Chris) Skiver, Lisa (Eric) Gonzalez, and Travis Wade grandchildren, Alyssa, Tyler, Hunter, Sammantha, Haley, Lindsay, Travis, Ava, Aubrey, and Addison great-grandchildren, Anya, Evie, Brody, and Mason as nicely as his brothers, Larry (Charlene) Slagle and Tommy (Bobbie) Slagle brothers- and sisters-in-legislation, Ed Baumgartner, Jim (Marge) Baumgartner, Richard (Lynn) Baumgartner, Barb Hester, Bob (Terri) Baumgartner, and Billy Lagger and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim was also preceded in death by his sister-in-legislation, Sandra Lagger, and brother-in-legislation, Albert Baumgartner.
